Seventh Chords

In this exercise you will be asked to identify different types of seventh chords:

  • Major seventh (those with a major triad and major seventh)
  • Minor seventh (those with a minor triad and minor seventh)
  • Dominant seventh (those with a major triad and minor seventh)
  • Half-diminished seventh (those with a diminished triad and minor seventh)
  • Diminished seventh (those with a diminished triad and diminished seventh)
  • Augmented seventh (those with an augmented triad and minor seventh)
  • Augmented major seventh (those with an augmented triad and major seventh)

For example, if you hear this chord (C, Eb, G and Bb), you would answer that this is a minor seventh chord, because it contains a minor triad and a minor seventh.
